A mysterious child with an hyperactive ability to regenerate who was subjected to inhumane research in an attempt to pass it down to humans. It's blood was transfused to children to that end with varying results from total failure to increased resilience and even some partial healing capacities, but never total success. Attempted organ transplants in subjects also mostly lead to failure, resulting either in death or the organ being simply assimilated to the subject with no regenerative abilty, except in one case.
Two 'offsprings' were also created through trial and error, but only #2 ended up being a successful copy, which proved to be a failure once it's link with #0 was cut off.

Where it comes from and what it exactly is remains a mystery. Cain managed to escape in the rush to cover up the experimentations done at the orphanage and it's current whereabouts are unknown.

Created from Cain's arm, Abel was the second attempt at figuring how far it's 'brother''s regenerative ability would go to heal a severed limb: the results went above and beyond expectations. Abel was less demure and scared than Cain, requesting books and videos that he ingested at an alarming rate. It was the one to name itself and it's brother after being given the book of Genesis as test to see how it would react and interpret it; it was also the inspiration for trying to give 'contaminated' flesh to the children since it would sustain itself by cannibalizing it's brother to survive after their link was cut off.

When everything went south, it had no choice but to satisfy itself with second grade meals, going on the hunt for the children who's blood had been tainted while looking for his dearest Cain.

Discarded by his carers, Eli was luckily found by garbage collectors before going through the hydrolic press. Less luckily for him, he would end up in the orphanage that would make headlines for horrible abuse and negligence only a few years later.
With his flat affect and seemingly detached personality, no one would have thought Eli would be the whistleblower who would take the whole orphanage down, and yet all it took was for his friend Viorel to disappear to kick him into gear, leading to their escape from this hell.

Despite this newfound freedom from abuse, he has never had any interest in anything but staying close to Viorel and remains content to just do so to this day. He lacks ambition and self-respect, seeing no problem with living in a dingy room with little more than an old couch to sleep on and taking all kinds of jobs to be able to sustain this frugal lifestyle. He's worked on construction sites (undeclared), as a bouncer, in pest control, doing dishes in various joints, housework, picking fruits, fixing stuff… Anything and everything, as long as he can have lunch with his best friend.

In an unlucky draw, Viorel was taken to the cutting floor overnight, losing both legs in an ongoing experiment aiming to study the subjects' reaction to consuming 'contaminated' flesh. Said tainted blood kept him from dying from the amputation, showing surprising resilience despite not regrowing his lost limbs. He was lucky enough not to become someone else's guinea pig once his friend Eli saved him: instead, he was one of the only boys who got adopted and he now tries his hardest to move on from his past.

Working with children comes more naturally to him than fellow adults, with which he can be more stand-offish. Art therapy helped him immensely when dealing with the traumatic loss of his limbs and the abuse he lived through at the orphanage, giving him an outlet to express what he still struggles to put into words, even though no doctors ever believed in the more fantastical parts of his testimony, chalking it up to his scarred imagination. This is the reason he started studying it: to be able to help other children process their pain, maybe hoping to finish healing his own pain by being an adult they can rely on.

Once a sheepish, weak child who ended in the foster system when his grandmother passed away, Ismaele was forced to thoughen up after his only friend -and worst tormentor- Valya became yet another victim of the sinister experiment conducted at the orphanage.

After it fell, Ismaele ran away from the institution he was placed in and went his own way. He enrolled in the military young and quickly defected to join a mercenary group, all while trying to forget what happened. But try as he might to numb himself to suffering, he couldn't get Valya out of his head, and decided to look for him.
Eventuallly, his research brought him back home and led him to an hospital owned by none other than the son of one of the researcher, Domen. He now acts as Valya's caretaker and do 'cleaning' jobs on the side to support himself and pay his debt to Domen, who was intrumental in getting his old friend in his care.

A peculiar, blind young man who always seems cheerful. He was supposed to go on a date with Domen whom he met through some dating app but was whisked under his nose by Ismaele instead; and despite the initial plan being to merely save him from an untimely end, they somehow hit off and started seeing each other often. He has a soft spot for strays and tend to bring them to Ismaele's, who seems unable to say no to him.

His body tells another story; behind the clothes, the truth lies naked, etched into almost every inch of skin. They hint at a torturous past filled with pain one cannot even begin to imagine. It took Ange years to build back the ability to merely smile, which he now maybe tend to hide behind. He wants nothing to do with his past, but lives with an aching void inside his heart, seemingly impossible to fill; especially not with quick, nameless hookups, who more often than not turn away when they see the state of his body.
But Ange is finding other ways to love, secretely hoping that maybe if he gives enough, he will finally receive the affection he lacks in return.

He now lives with Ismaele, mute and disoriented but apparently happy with this strange new life.

If he was extremely wary of others at first, he quickly warmed up to Ange, who would feed him all sorts of sweets to gain his trust. He has become extremely cuddly and it is not rare for him to express himself through touch even with near strangers.
Despite his almost child-like air, he seems to understand complex emotions and serious situations quite well, sensing grief and danger almost instinctively.

Troublesome, prone to violent burst of angers and paranoia, Valya was feared by all the children at the orphanage, as his fits of violence spared no one, not even his only friend Ismaele. When he strayed outside of where he was allowed and witnessed unfortunate things, these behavioral issues were the perfect excuse to poke around his brain and pretend to have given him a lobotomy, thus keeping a promising subject both alive and silent.

Now, after years of wasting away in an hospital room, he was finally taken to live with Ismaele, but he remains in a state of stupor to this day. He sometimes sits up on his own, seemingly out of nowhere, giving Ismaele a drop of stupid hope, but nothing. Not a word, or a look, nothing. When the silence is too much, Ismaele will squeeze his hand a little too hard, or push the tooth brush a little too far down his throat, just to feel him instintively jolt, before guilt overtakes him. He doesn't know it is infinitely kinder than what has been done to him while he was at the hospital.

Being the son of one of the head scientist behind the experiment at the orphanage, Domen got to spend a lot of time with the other boys without enduring the same torments; he actually found delight in their misery and would often play cruel games with the weaker ones. The only one he could never assert dominance over was Valya, who would not hesitate to beat him up without a care for who his father was; and his father did nothing to stop him, just jotting down notes of his healing injuries. Domen was nothing but the control subject, the untainted one to measure the progress of the other children, but he would not learn this before years later.
Despite his father dying and the abuse -but not the research- being exposed, his charm and intellect got him very far in life, hiding his sick and twisted penchants that grew from mere bullying to hunting young men. The hoops he had to jump through to avoid his father's infamy fed a deep grudge towards Cain and Abel, which he learned about through his father's hidden research, to the point where he hired Ismaele to get rid of them both.

His thirst for defiling others and his undermining of Jesse's feelings would ultimately lead to his untimely death: a simple crime of passion, a lover scorned by unfaithfulness, and his already cold body engulfed by the flames of a seemingly accidental fire, the culprit never found because of the secrecy he had imposed on their couple.

The litter of the runt. Even before the orphanage, Jesse was always the most sensitive and the easiest target, earning him unwanted attention from his aunt. His mother did not believe him when he finally gathered the courage to speak up, but social service did end up taking him away from harm and neglect.
Sadly this tendency followed him both at the orphanage, were he was mercilessly teased and bullied, and well after the fall and into his adult life. Berated, taken for granted, abused, things never looked up for Jesse, except that faithful day where Domen, one of his worst bullies, crossed his path again. But even when he finally had him under his thumb and was ready to take revenge for years of cruel abuse, Domen managed to turn his love starved, obsessive personnality to his avantage and once more made him into his plaything; but in the end, he got too cocky.

Jesse's been crashing at Ismaele's after calling him in a panic to help dispose of the body, his depressive state too worrying for Ange to just let him go, much to Ismaele's dismay. He has stopped people pleasing to fall into a harsh, pessimistic view of the world fueled by years of unfair hate thrown at his face. Ange has hope to see him heal and grow, but Jesse isn't that hopeful or motivated, though his cowardice makes him stick around, at least content to be fed and housed without needing to work another shitty shift in a dead-end job.

dr. coeus volf

sluggish ; unmotivated ; unprincipled ; flippant ; prodigious in his field

Born into a family of lower aristocratic descent, Coeus was a strange and difficult child that did not fit with the crowd, showing only interest in morbid topics and a general disregard for manners and frivolities. Due to his eagerness for knowledge being the only thing pulling him out of his constant state of ennui, his parents relented, supporting his weird fixations through books and eventually studies; this seemingly was the right choice as he quickly showed above-average intellect in his favorite fields, obtaining his bachelor degree in biology at only 14.

His fall from grace started when multiple co-workers started being put-off by his disdain for ethics, pushing him to isolate into his own laboratory funded by his family. His lack of care for human life would show to extend to his own, as he would inoculate himself with his own experiments, which eventually saved his life when he failed to contain an outbreak he created and was left to die quarantined with his unwilling volunteers.
To the rest of the world, Coeus Volf died there as a disgraced criminal, but he was actually rescued by a mysterious client who made him work for them, though he is not extremely motivated, left even more numb than before by what transpired during his forced quarantine.

. funny warden . despite his brutish exterior, he surprisingly likes him -or perhaps he hadn't realized how starved for human contact he was before being cut from the world. he likes to call him brutus, as he sees much of the historical figure in him.

the first semi-successful attempt at the assignment he was given by his mysterious captors. he honestly can't be arsed to reiterate the experience now that it ran away. oh well.

a fun little side project he did. he is quite happy with the result even if the hybrid hates him, which is no matter as he can observe him and take notes just as well from afar.

rough ; belligerent ; guarded ; weary ; watchful

A man of little word and patience, Hunter -as others call him- has been hired to guard, protect and oversee Dr Coeus Volf, which quickly proved to be a trial for his nerves. Still, he begrudgingly does it because his employer is paying handsomely to keep the creep confined.

Few get to pry into his personal life, though the broad strokes did make headlines back then; his childhood in a small cult-led town was punctuated by physical punishment for every perceived irreligious behaviors. Due to this high stress environment, he developed severe epilepsy during his teenage years, which led his parents to believe he was possessed and spurred weeks of physical and mental abuse as the priest tried to exorcise him. After an anonymous caller denounced the child-abuse happening in the town, he was found by the police on the brink of death.
The public didn't really care about the rest. He apparently escaped the therapeutic boarding school he was placed in, worked as an illegal factory worker where he was introduced to the local lesbian bar by an older coworker, became a sort of bouncer in a few lesbian bar, took on more jobs as a bruiser, did some time in jail for almost beating a pimp to death before somehow ending up in the security industry despite his criminal record. Now he just wants enough cash to buy a cabin somewhere and retire early.

homo-canis W1M / gage

keen ; agressive ; stubborn ; energetic ; surprisingly cuddly

One of Coeus’ little ‘pet projects’ -as he likes to call them-, it eventually gained freedom to roam around after showing non-agressive behavior toward Hunter, though he will still try to bite his creator if approached. Homo-canis W1M shows mostly canid behavior but will occasionally behave like a human, even showing glimpses of remaining sapience, though it is unknown what remains truly of his human consciousness.

Christer Stoen was to be given the capital punishment for multiple account of aggravated murder, kidnapping and sexual assaults, all committed before he turned 20. He himself thought he would die by lethal injection only to wake up strapped in the lab. Christer was described by the press as ‘luring teenage girls with his boyish charms and bad boy flair’, earning him the nickname ‘little bad wolf’ which he has said to despise.

A young man who was brought to the mansion after he was found hung upside-down in a barn, beaten and bloody. Due to having been born with a peculiar mutation, he was intended as some kind of motivating ‘gift’ for Coeus in the hopes that stimulating his scientific curiosity would get him back to working seriously. The researcher did get curious, vivisecting Valeriy almost immediately after he recovered from his wounds, but he also gave him the freedom to roam the house as he please, providing clothes, food, shelter and drugs to soothe both his physical mental pain. Despite fearing being the subject of other invasive procedures, Valeriy has nowhere to go so he stays at the mansion, trying to make himself as small as possible in hopes of being forgotten.

Before being captured and tortured, he had lived most of his life inside an attic, forbidden from seeing or interacting with the outside beyond the little window that let him see a glimpse of the world. The old woman bringing him food and caring for him would berate him each time she went up, telling him he should be thankful because people out there wouldn’t hesitate to kill him; sadly, the truth proved to be even worse when Val finally gathered the courage to venture outside…

he stands between him and the exit, if he was even willing to escape… intimidating but perhaps not as mean as he imagined, he still does not feel comfortable near him and his guns.

another victim(?) of the scientist ?? val fears seeing his future in him. ironic, but the creature disturbs him and he prefers to avoid it as much a possible.

linnormr aphroditois host#4

An highly dangerous worm-like parasite created by Coeus to the demand of his client. It has shown the ability to take control of a corpse's nervous system and "restart" it's vital function, artificially reviving the host -although it shows no brain function aside of the areas being stimulated by the parasite. It's name is a reference to the danish fairtyale "Prince Lindworm". It is unknown how intelligent it is as it has managed to escape the laboratory and flee into nature before being studied more extensively, but it seemed to be attempting to mimick human speech after being spoken to before disappearing.
It is the only specimen of it's kind, but Coeus posits that it is likely to start looking for an host to lay eggs in at some point… Preferrably a living, much warmer body to it's current one.

Not much is known of the host itself, except that they died of a cardiac arrest following drug usage and that their body was illegally obtained.
